It is used as pharmaceutical intermediatesIt also exhibits inhibitory effects on Ras proteins, making them potentially useful compounds in treating cancer. 

It is a Tafamidis intermediate, used to delay loss of peripheral nerve function in adults with familial amyloid polyneuropathy (FAP). It works by stabilizing the protein transthyretin.
